BOOKKEEPER PLEADS GUILTY TO FELONY THEFT
(Georgetown, DE): Attorney General M. Jane Brady announces the
recent conviction of Nancy W. Aydelotte, a former bookkeeper for “Painting by Pearl”, a Sussex County
house and business painter, for stealing from her employer.
On May 23rd, Judge Richard F. Stokes accepted Aydelotte’s
guilty plea to three counts of felony theft, one count of forgery 2nd
degree and one count of falsifying business records for thefts from the
painting business. She was immediately sentenced to an eight and one-half
year prison sentence which was suspended by the Judge for probation.
She was also ordered to pay $46,000 in restitution to Pearl Chenette of
Milton, owner of “Painting by Pearl.” The defendant paid $25,000 toward the
restitution amount at the time of the plea and sentencing and was ordered to pay
the additional $21,000 within the next year.
For over a year, from April, 2001 until July, 2002, Aydelotte worked for the
painting business handling the bills, taxes and payroll for the small business.
The theft was uncovered by the owner in the summer of 2002 when she attempted to
use a credit card and it was declined.
