ATTORNEY GENERAL BRADY AND DEPUTIES PARTICIPATE IN LAW DAY ACTIVITIES STATEWIDE

(Wilmington, DE): Attorney General Brady and Deputy Attorneys General from her office will participate in Law Day activities at high schools around the state in the coming weeks. Since 1961, May 1st has been designated as Law Day by Congress each year. Law Day activities have expanded and, this year, include the week of April 26th and the week of May 4th. . This year's official theme from the American Bar Association is To Win Equality By Law: Brown v. Board at 50. In Delaware, Law Day is coordinated by the Supreme Court of Delaware, Administrative Office of the Courts, the Delaware Law Related Education Center, Inc. and members of the Delaware Bar.

On Wednesday, April 28th, Attorney General Brady will teach a session on "Desegregation in Delaware" at Lake Forest High School beginning at 7:30 a.m. This lesson was developed as part of a series of lessons designed to commemorate the Brown decision. It focuses on the special role Delaware played in school desegregation and discusses Belton v. Gebhart and Bulah v. Gebhart which were the two Delaware cases attached to Brown. The lesson describes how Delaware became the first state to have a state court order desegregation of public schools.

Brady will teach the same lesson plan on Friday, April 30th at Laurel High School beginning at 8 a.m. and on May 4th at McKean High School at 7:45 a.m.

Brady, who is the President of the Board of Trustees of the Delaware Law Related Education Center, stated, "As Attorney General and also as a member of the Board of the Delaware Law Related Education Center, I think it is critical for students to learn about the civic values that are the foundation of America's democracy. Delaware’s key role in school desegregation is important for our students to learn about in this anniversary year of Brown v. Board. I am proud that my office is a strong supporter of this program."
